The Money Beacon is a free, independent personal finance website. Producing in-depth, regularly updated guides and comparisons takes real work, and we keep the site free to read by earning money through advertising and affiliate partnerships. This page explains, plainly, how we make money and how that does and does not affect what we publish.

How we make money

• Affiliate links. Many of the products we write about (credit cards, bank accounts, brokerages, loans, insurance and similar) are offered by companies that run affiliate or referral programs. When you click certain links on our site and then take an action, such as applying for or opening a product, we may receive a commission or referral fee. This comes at no additional cost to you, and you never pay more by using our links.
• Advertising. We may display advertisements or paid placements on the site. Where a placement is paid, we identify it as advertising or sponsored.

How this affects what you see

These commercial relationships may influence which products we feature and where they appear on a page (for example, the order in which products are listed in a roundup or table). They do not influence our editorial opinions, our ratings, or the substance of our recommendations.

Our reviews, comparisons and rankings are based on our own independent research and editorial judgment. If our view of a product is critical, we say so, partner or not.
